Combo point

From Wowpedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Combo points are represented as red dots on the enemy's portrait.

Unique to the rogue class (and druids in [Cat Form]), combo points are a secondary resource accumulated as certain special attacks are performed against an enemy, then spent on other special attacks. The number of combo points obtained is represented by small red circles on the right side of the enemy portrait in the UI. Targets can have a maximum of 5 combo points.

Attacks which generate combo points are sometimes referred to as 'builders', and attacks which consume combo points are referred to as finishing moves or 'finishers'. The more combo points the player has built up against an enemy, the greater the effect of the finishing move, with a roughly proportionate increase per point consumed. Finishing moves cannot be used without at least one combo point on the target, and using a finishing moves will consume all available combo points.

Unlike other resources, combo points are target-specific, meaning they can only be used on the target against which they were generated. A player may also only have combo points active on a single target at a time, and using a combo-point generating ability on a target will cause the player to lose any combo points active on other targets. However, simply switching targets or dealing damage to another target will not affect combo points in this way. Rogues can also use [Redirect] to switch combo points from one target to another. Druids switching forms will not reset their combo points as long as they keep the same target.
