Forums: Village pump → Welcome to the new Wowpedia!
(This topic is archived. Please do not edit this page!)

Welcome, everyone, to the new site! We're glad you decided to join us. I hope you are settling in well - there's a few tweaks here and there left to be made (and feel free to help edit away stuff that doesn't look right), but mostly it should work like a charm. If you haven't yet, head over to reclaim your WoWWiki username. If you need (or want) an account rename or merge or have any other problems, let us know.

Now, a few details about the move: We are being hosted by Curse. They are very excited to be working with us and we should see some nice improvements (tooltips auto-updated from Sigrie and the like) coming down the road. They are doing this ad-free (nice change from Wikia, huh?), at least for a few months. We did have a few other options - some of them very tempting - but the Curse option just clicked (and we had to move fast with Wikia shoving a skin down our throats).

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:58, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

A big thank you to Curse, then, for being so awesome.
Thank you for creating this site! I was very upset with the new skin at the old site. This looks and works way better. Also, a thousand thank yous to Curse for hosting it!
But... could we please have a real forum instead of this cumbersome - and error-prone - Wiki-page forum simulation? Please?

Can someone make a Firefox search plugin for this site? That was a feature back on Wikia that was very useful. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:34, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Created. Enjoy! Ressy (talk) 00:45, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:51, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
I migrated my username over, but I only see my contributions before October. I'm assuming the wowwiki transfer hasn't completed yet? Will there be a status update on how much has transferred or when both wikis are synced up? --Kanegasi C 01:34, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
The actual edits are in, they're just not showing up in your contributions - and if there is an edit we missed somehow, feel free to go ahead and add it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:35, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Cool, thanks for the info. I'll keep an eye on my previous edits. I would also like to note that for some reason, I always have the habit of clicking the top logo of a site since that is the most common way to get to the homepage. This new wiki makes that minor habit work a lot better since the top logo on wikia brings you to wikia, not wowwiki. I wasn't really bothered to think of my stance about the transfer issue, but since wikia just rolled out their new look and seeing the way this site feels, I do believe you have not made anything remotely close to a bad decision. To add to the awesomeness, I am an avid Curse user and they are the only way I maintain my addons. Awesome job, and keep up the good work! --Kanegasi C 04:39, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I changed mi nick from wowwiki since I always use this in my wow comunities. Is there any possibility to migrate my stats to this one?. btw oh fuck yeah, love this skin. --Petrovic
Please edit your WoWWiki user page on WoWWiki to point to your account here. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 04:23, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Will Curse take any part in the management, or are they giving carte blanche to you guys as the original admins? --Joshmaul (talk) 01:52, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

They're pretty much going hands-off. They are helping us with getting everything set up as well as press and the working with Sigrie stuff I mentioned but that's about it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 01:54, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

This actually is better than the other. Uses full width of one's monitor! And tooltips will be great! --Tsavi (talk) 02:13, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

It would probably be a good idea to throw some kind of notification onto the WoW Forums, at least in General and UI forums. I would have done it myself, but I figured the website admins would want the honor. --DrDoom (talk) 04:44, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Just wanna say, love the new site, I wasn't interested in getting involved with the fight with wikia but having seen what they've done and what has been done here, I am more then happy with the way everything turned out. Congratulations on all the hard work everyone put in to make this so smooth, very much appreciated. Max Krist (talk) 05:01, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Love the new logo, looks great! SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 06:22, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

So were on curse now? please tell me there isn't going to be some premium feature like the rest of the curse sites. >.< Kiingy (talk) 07:53, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

of course they will. Editors pay 2 cents per letter when they edit, premium members don't. But seriously, from what I gathered, they won't. Btw. Could someone merge Eluna into Elunatic? Thanks! Elunatic (talk) 08:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
As an addon author I LOVE the premium side of curse! ;) I have like £50 of vouchers from it saved up so far (thinking of getting something wow related with them!). I LOVE the way that the authors who make the site what is is get something back (Unlike Wikia)! ;) Also we get premium accounts automaticly (if your addon is good enough and used enough!). SO HELL YER! Good choice guys... Also I LOVE the skin and the new logo/icon (although as mentioned before at first I didn't get the new ones only when I came to this page did I see it. I was def the WOWWiki one when I first came as I noticed that. Zasurus (talk) 17:18, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Glad to see we're back to doing things the old way. And curse was probably the best choice anyway! :) Solocommand (talk) 11:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Beautiful looking site. Do have one question though, is there a page similar to how /Special:MyHome/ functioned on the old site here? Saberd (talk) 13:13, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I am afraid that there's not. Matix22 (talk) 13:19, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

@Saberd, i believe that the closest thing you can come to /Special:MyHome/ is /Special:RecentChanges/, hope thats close enough :) - Aedror42 (talk) 19:33, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Erm, well, this is WoW Fan Story Writer from WoWWiki, it doesn't seem to be letting me transfer my account here. I'm doing what it asks on the reclaimation page thing, but does it take time for an admin to transfer my account, or something? Thanks! Grimn358 (talk) 21:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Do you want to use the name you had there or the name you had here? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:12, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
My change was instant. You need to do an actual minor edit to your user page, like plunking in a random letter. Then put in your proof code in the summary, I left out the parentheses just in case. Save, go back to the transfer page, then name and p/w. It should then confirm instantly.--Mondoblasto (talk) 00:16, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Hey, thanks! Got it working now! ;D WoW Fan Story Writer (talk) 02:58, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Anyhow, could an admin please switch my account names, or delete the current Grimn358 altogether? I'd like this current account to become 'Grimn358'. I've been dying to make that change for ages. xD WoW Fan Story Writer (talk) 03:01, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Merged you to Grimn358. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:18, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
I want to say how much I love the new skin! Very clean and easy to use and nothing hard on the eyes! :) Thanks for putting the time into this and also making this move so smooth! Zasurus (talk) 00:31, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm happy about the move to the new domain, and I'm going to support it as well as I can by updating old content. I also like the new skin, what Wikia did with all the ads was just horrible! (Today they even wanted to tell me how I can grow my muscles, who do they think I am? Next thing would probably be Vi.gra ads!) Anyway, as much as I like the new skin, I'll switch to Monobook soon, simply because my eyes prefer to read text on white background. --Tharbur (talk) 18:38, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

I for one welocome our new Curse overlords! Good of you guys to refuse to be bullied by wikia :D Renmiri (talk) 17:45, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

A Call to Arms[]

The new site is live. There are now two wikis, each competing to be the de facto wiki for WoW information. In the end, we don't know which site will survive. But one thing's for sure: if this site wants to survive, it needs to distinguish itself from the old one. People need a reason to come here. People need a reason to stay here.

This is no easy task, but it can be done, and I believe we have a golden opportunity to do so. A major patch was just released, and we're on the eve of an expansion. There is a sickening amount of outdated information on the wiki. The pages for most class abilities, talents, glyphs, and items are flat out wrong right now. Some of this information dates from the BC and vanilla eras.

If Wowpedia wants to distinguish itself, it needs to be known as the place for the most up-to-date and reliable information on World of Warcraft.

So, this is a call to update Wowpedia now. Many players are wondering what's up with their class right now, and if Wowpedia can provide that information, it will have the edge over the competition. Pick a subject you know about and go through all its related pages, making sure they're up to date. Pick a random item or ability and update its tooltip. Do something. Shrivelup (talk) 12:46, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

In that vein: will there be ANY kind of automated/bot effort to create missing 4.0.1 pages? With the overwhelming amount of info in 4.0.1, it's critical our efforts be as effective as possible, so I'd rather spend my time updating out-of-date pages rather than creating missing ones if something else is going to create them programmatically. Please advise ASAP. Thanks! Keyesc (talk) 20:02, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
I am very excited to aid Wowpedia. I'm off WoW at the moment but I keep an eye for Beta now, so I will try to update everything I will be able to do so. Matix22 (talk) 12:53, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Is there is a quick way to mark a page out of date? I am sure I have seen a box at the top of pages before saying this needs updating or something. Maybe if someone said how we did that then it would be easy to mark pages as out of date (if you noticed and didn't have time to update them) and also would make it ovious for anyone coming to that page that had info that wasn't on there they needed to update it? Zasurus (talk) 17:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
{{ood}} --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:25, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Excellent ideas! I was initially going to suggest flat out deleting old and erroneous information, but that's because I'm not versed in wiki-fu. Is there a way to tag pages for inspection to see if they're out of date? For areas out side of your expertise, for example... Also, this may be... overly cluttered (and keep in mind I'm not very wiki-literate, so this may be a terrible idea) but is there a way to, say, mark an article as "verified for 4.0.1"? As an example, the macro page for hunters seems to have been tidied up already. On the other hand, the Paladin macro page is a terrifying place that still remarks about the changes to macros that were made at the beginning of 3.1... yikes!.
Actually with a bit of thought, that seems like it might not be a bad idea... an icon or bit of text that indicates when a page was last looked over to verify it's data. It might also help to keep some things up to date in the future. ... Of course, I'm a wikinoob, so, this is probably a terrible idea... however.. better to have a bad idea shot down, then to not voice a good idea. :D Colbywolf (talk) 09:42, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
About the class abilities, I am replacing the old tables with rank information with new information. Each class ability will have a level table with data for each level 1 - 85. The first column group (each column group consists of a level column and following column with other information such as mana costs, damage, healing, DoT, HoT, etc.) has information for level 1 - 20. The next group for level 21-40. The next for 41-60. The next for 61-80. The last group has information for level 81-85. For filling the table I have created 10 chars of different classes and I will level each char up from 1 to 10. The data I see I will put in the table. It is a wee lot of work but I hope that others with higher level chars will fill in the data which is not available at me, because I have not those chars. Hans Kamp (talk) 17:42, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Not sure if related, but did all the original admins move here?
I'm wondering, since that would mean the wikia version has no moderators... and could be easily raped by shameless internet trolls.
Just saying. Not like I care or want to troll them myself, but just saying :P.--Lon-ami (talk) 19:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Basically yes. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 19:04, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Sweet. Very sweet.
Without any competent person at charge, it's a matter of time for wow.wikia to die.
I'll have fun seeing how new people fill everything with fanfic stuff. I already imagine the "relatives" section for Thrall: Jaina (wife), <enter 40 character names> (sons/fathers/clone/deity)
So sweet xDDD.--Lon-ami (talk) 19:21, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
When Cata launches, I plan to rewrite all classic zone pages and update them to reflect the changes, as well as several tweaks to BC/LK ones. The question is: will we keep the original information somewhere? Section maybe? Matix (talk) 19:16, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
I asked a Wikia helper about this yesterday, how can they managed an important wiki without veterans. Seems wikia is planning to replace them with their personal staff and mantain the wiki until other (prepared) users take control. Really it's a juicy candy to handle a site like wowiki, I doubt none takes the responsabilty. --Petrovic (talk) 16:38, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
I think we should. A section "Pre-cataclym" sounds like a good approach to this. MaienM (talk) 20:40, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
This already has been planned. See Help:Updating for Cataclysm.--SWM2448 21:00, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

I will sometimes be checking out the old wiki. If an major edit is applied on an important article there, I will be copy-pasting them here.Overlord Divine (talk) 19:38, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Don't think it will be hard to distinguish the two... we'll have tooltips, while wowwiki's have been broken. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 01:50, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Talking about the level tables. I will make complete level tables of all Druid spells. First I will work on Balance and Restoration spells as soon as Patch 4.0.3 is launched when you can make a Troll Druid (which will have a Balance and a Restoration build). Later on I will work on Feral Combat abilities/spells at the launch of Cataclysm expansion set at the 7th of December. The table will be filled from level 10 up to 85. Hans Kamp (talk) 12:24, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Good job. This is so much easier on the eyes than WoWWiki. I've never contributed so far but I just might start now. Gnikki (talk) 15:28, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
A bad though, have you think that maybe something use the new info wrote here to paste it in wowwiki? --Petrovic
I'm no great shakes, and it's not much ... but I can at least do some trawling through my list of Glyps for Inscription, and see what new information is there, but not yet online here, when next I have the hour or two to spare. My list isn't 100% complete, but it's got most of them. --PaxArcana (talk) 04:33, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Is there something we can do about Google search? At the moment, every time I search for something like "Honor Hold Reputation" it brings up wowWiki. When I add "+wowpedia" it says "do you mean wowWiki" and excludes from search. I know that it may take a while for the search engines to crawl these pages, but is there something we can do to speed it up? I know that the more pages that link to something, the higher it will raise a site in the search ratings, for example. So if you have a blog - add those links! Tequima (talk) 08:53, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Guys! I'm not a WoW player, I'm a Guild Wars player (don't shoot me!) as well as the admin of the Talisman Online Wiki that has also fled the tragedy that Wikia has become. In response to Tequima's comment, prior to moving the Talisman Online Wiki from Wikia to Curse, we spent some time "rebranding" the Wikia site to be Talisman Online@Wikia, rather than Talisman Online Wiki. Staff has been resistant to these changes, but our reasoning has been that it only gives more prominence to the Wikia brand. I believe that GuildWiki is doing much the same as they are also planning on leaving Wikia (and PvXWiki has also fled to Curse). I know it's a bit late for you guys, since you've already moved, and have drawn a lot of attention from Wikia staff, but it's something to think about. It will take you a long time to beat Wikia in the search engines (if ever) but I wish you luck! Oh, and welcome to Curse as well. Your site does look great! --Wynthyst (talk) 09:22, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Admins, have you run http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:GenerateSitemap.php yet? All our main pages should be here and that would help Google index/reindex us a lot. -=- IconSmall DrakeAzure Drazisil [t/c] 18:15, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Even though I know that the new owners (Curse) are basically going to be hands-off, I think it might help Wowpedia be the premier source for WoW lore/info over WoWWiki if they helped with SEO, since they have a large pool of reources. Not entirely sure how, but it's something to think about. --Vaeku 00:54, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
Its planned. Wowpedia should be added to the curse-gaming bottom banner soonish. They're still working on a few things due to how quickly the move had to happen to make the Oct 20th deadline. Hell, they're still working on stabilizing the server. ;)
Also remember, the official news release still hasn't gone out. That should be sometime this week, and should be covered by many sites. Ressy (talk) 01:09, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Count me in for editing this site. I'm a former active SysOp at another Wikia, and I know what it takes to sustain a new site. Right now, people are furious at Wikia (myself included, the new skin is just god-awful, and forcing people to us it is not cool). I do have one question, does WoWWiki use Semantic Data in a meaningful way across the wiki, and does it store ID numbers for items, factions, achievements, etc? For example, I looked at the properties on the Inv fabric mageweave 01 [Mageweave Cloth] page, and it noticed there is no semantic data. What this site could use to distinguish itself is the ability to search and categorise data dynamically. For example, I could hypothetically want to run a custom query to list all types of cloth. I could set the data returned to include the Item Level, Item IDs, and Vendor Values. What do TPTB think about this idea? (Incidentally, check out [1] for how we ran a Semantic MediaWiki implementation.--TwoTailedFox (talk) 17:35, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Item pages aren't using semantic data yet, we have a redesign in the works for that, but we want the server to be a bit more stable first. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:45, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Good to hear that. Will the data be showing up in SMW immediately, or will edits need to be made to every item page to incorporate the data?--TwoTailedFox (talk) 17:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Should be immediate. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:53, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Cool. What types of data will and won't be tracked? Apologies for the questions, I just like seeing SMW used :3--TwoTailedFox (talk) 17:56, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
Every single attribute. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:57, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Quick Question: looking to help edit and update pages w/ the massive amount of changes that have happened. for the sake of editing and tracking the updates, would you prefer us to tackle edits by sections on a page or just tackle the whole page at once? I figure a by-section approach would allow for easier viewing/comparing changes and revising changes as needed. Thanks! (Eidyia (talk) 20:09, 26 October 2010 (UTC))

Whichever you prefer; section by section editing is probably easier. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:12, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Why are we hanging onto the old site?[]

I tried following the conversation here and at the discussion over the move and I admit I don't really understand it that well, but we're all still registered users at wowwiki, aren't we? Why not just edit the pages there to link to wowpedia, or even redirect entirely? Why still allow edits on the old wiki when it seems most people have moved here? Having data added to the old site is useless to us and I don't see any reason to leave it if we're actually moving. Dr. Cheis (talk) 08:45, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Removing content from WoWWiki would constitute vandalism. Wikia still have the right to have that content on their web site. PhilHibbs (talk) 20:00, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Fair enough, but what about adding links to wowpedia on each wowwiki page like is done with, say wowhead, warcraftpets, thottbot? Say there's a page at www.wowwiki.com/example_page, and at the bottom is a link to www.wowpedia.org/example_page? I'm worried some users may not understand the difference between the sites or be unaware that edits that happen on one site don't appear on the other. Dr. Cheis (talk) 21:36, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
Beware editing the WoWWiki "external links" template to point here - they have just as much right to edit the WoWPedia template to point to WoWWiki. We are in direct competition, think carefully before doing anything that could be interpreted as hostility. Wikiwar, anyone? PhilHibbs (talk) 20:04, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Wherez my contributions?[]

First of all, I'm really happy things went well (Akama hopes we haven't changed one evil master for another), but everything seems just fine. I'm pretty happy. I was accustomed to the old skin, and to see the even older one active again... well, I guess I just need to accustom once again. After all, this one is way better.

But here's my real deal: I'm missing some contributions. Just see it by yourselves:

There aren't many, but they're there. If they can be recovered somehow, then fine. I guess I'm not the only one to have this problem with the latest contributions.

That's all, hope it's fixed soon. And yeah, the new logo is AWESOME.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:30, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

My bad, I just noticed some of them were done by a bot. Still, the most recent ones are still missing.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:31, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
To be exact, now that I have checked deeply, the missing editions are those of October 20 and 21. No problem on reuploading them in case it's needed.--Lon-ami (talk) 17:37, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
The botting stopped on the 18th. You'll have to redo any edits since. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:38, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Ok, no problem.
Also, what about the edit-count? is that going to be fixed or something?--Lon-ami (talk) 17:49, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
It's not a priority, but we're aware of it. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 17:50, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Should be (mostly) fixed now -- your edit count should no longer be radically different from the one on Wikia; there may still be slight differences due to the imprecise nature of the bot import. -- foxlit (talk) 12:16, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Well, thanks a lot for the help. Now I've editions to do, that I hold because of the move :P. Good luck with the new host ;).--Lon-ami (talk) 18:02, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
Most of the edits imported by the bot are now attributed to the editors that made them, and should show up in your contributions list. There are two notable exceptions: users whose names were changed and users whose accounts did not get copied over to Wowpedia. -- foxlit (talk) 01:00, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Additions[]

I noticed, that when you edit pages, there isn't any "add picture"-icon next to the other icons above the white text box. Is this something you'll be adding soon? - Aedror42 (talk) 19:24, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

It's the one between the "A" and the bugle. You'll need to upload the file yourself by clicking on the redlink. --Sky (talk) 20:37, 21 October 2010 (UTC)

Dev Tools[]

Hi, first of all congrats for the new site, it looks great!. Hope the force (or Elune) be with us for a long time.

  • Wowwiki has best SEO than us. If you search for anything in Google about Warcraft, first results are to Wowwiki, thotbot and allakhazan so wee need to do something to reach our position . I think it could help if the External links template in wowwiki is edited and points to the same article in wowpedia.
  • I talked about this before, I don't know how far it could be developed but I need to ask. I'd love to see something similar to the wowhead language tool here, that's it the principal article with its text, templates, categories, images... and a small button added to see exactly this entry into another language (obviously the content need to be written by natives) sharing all the accesories and changing only the translated text. I know the russian guys are willing to leave wikia too and colaborate so I wonder if it's technically possible to join all the wikis in one. I know it's more easy to load a predeterminate skin and run but we are talking about to offer something different to people used to visit wowwikis in wikia. I don't mind how long it will take, Cataclysm is knocking at the door and it's top priority, just need some highlights.
  • Another question, what's the maximun bandwidth suppoted by the new hosting?
As many as you need :) --Curse

Happy editing ;) --Petrovic

I really love this idea. An "Universal Wowpedia" would be wonderful and a lot more complete than wowwiki. Could it be possible to make?
PS: Sorry for my really, really bad english. -.-
--Cemotucu
It would be possible to write the content in numerous languages, the biggest problem is that it will be dificult to do, as new content is added constantly. Even major sites such as facebook arnt 100% perfect in translation. I dont know much about wiki bots, however im assuming it wouldnt be too hard to create es.wowpedia.org and using a bot that hooks into googles language translation api? King of Stormwind. I'm Back[]

I started fresh this time, I'm Hallowseve15. Couldn't figure how to reclaim my account back, too confusing. Hallowseve (talk) 02:20, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

You could ask for a merger with your old account, which does exist here. User:Hallowseve15. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 04:36, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

It says my password is invalid. Hallowseve (talk) 13:03, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Your new password is either too short or too closely resembles your username. Pick a different new password. -- foxlit (talk) 14:28, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Clubs[]

The images and templates for editing clubs are still from WoWWiki, just telling :) User:Matix/sign 12:19, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

We are aware of that, but we'll have to get ahold of the guy that created them in the first place. --g0urra[T҂C] 14:57, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Nice work[]

Very pleased about how seamless the migration was. Got my old account back, got a new search plugin, raring to go. Nice choice of hosts as well. As for SEO, that'll improve over time if people migrate. Has the move been announced to the various sites which track the WoW community yet? Thumperward (talk) 13:58, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Curse announced it yesterday afternoon, Bibi from MMO-Champion announced it about 5 hrs ago, next I do believe is World of Raids, and then sending the press release out to wowinsider, and other gaming sites. :) Ressy (talk) 14:11, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

Left hand navigation and hover information[]

Does anyone know if the navigation that was used on Wikia (hover over characters, hover over classes, select hunter, etc) will be making it's way over here? That was very useful. Also, will the hover information on things like items and abilities be coming back?--SteelStiletto (talk) 00:32, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Items and abilities should be working, let me know if it isn't. We aren't using Monaco, the skin with the navigation elements you're talking about, and don't have any intention to. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:35, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh, it wasn't working for me before, but I just tested it and now it is. Sad (in my opinion) that we won't have the navigation from that anymore though. --SteelStiletto (talk) 00:44, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Skin?[]

Wasn't one of the factors that made us switch so we would be able to keep the old wowwiki skin? Where's that one on here? ~ Nathanyel (talk) 14:09, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

We should be able to hook that one up soon. Our focus in the past few days has been getting everything working first. --k_d3 20:15, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Broken Links after Move[]

A lot of the links on the bottom of this page (and I presume others as well) are broken, my guess because we're no longer on the Wikia network. A workaround would be great so we can still link to other wikis. Dr. Cheis (talk) 21:02, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

You should be able to use external links. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:41, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
True, but old pages are going to remain broken. The wowwwiki page at http://www.wowwiki.com/Help:Interwiki_linking explains that there was a special code for linking to other wikis on Wikia, and that was used on the page I gave as an example. (It was written this way before I edited it, I just added more links). This is mainly a problem with pages that mention the Starcraft universe, as they often have links to the Starcraft wiki at wikia. Is it possible for the admins or somebody to set it up so all these old links link to the correct places once again? Dr. Cheis (talk) 08:29, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
OK, added starcraft. You'll have to change w:c:starcraft to starcraft. Transformers and other non-Blizzard links will have to be external. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 12:28, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Search?[]

I like the new Wowpedia, thanks to all the admins and people that helped to make this possible :)
I just have one question, the search from this site takes you directly to the article or make a limited search of the mainspace, as opposed to the old wowwiki search, which made a google-like search with all the results in the site. So, will that old type of search will be implemented to this site? Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 01:18, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Hmm, pretty sure most of us prefer the built-in search, since Google takes longer to index. You could use JavaScript to change it to Google for yourself, though. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:44, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Dot Com[]

I am assuming i am not the only person who has who has accidently typed in wowpedia.com instead of .org? i made the mistake again today and got greeted by a friendly message letting me know its for sale. would it be a good idea to purchase it and redirect it here? // Loremaster Mosios (GossipGossipIcon BinderGossipIcon) 23:55, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

We would prefer it, but I don't think the squatters are too keen to sell. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 23:56, 28 October 2010 (UTC)
We will never know unless we ask, right? the site currently says "This domain has recently been listed in the marketplace". // Loremaster Mosios (GossipGossipIcon BinderGossipIcon) 01:49, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I would recommend buying the domain ASAP, and redirecting it here. Bagel 02:27, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
The reason I keep getting wowpedia.com is when I click a link in google it takes me to wowwiki.com so a quick change of the url and I replace wowwiki with wowpedia... aparently after the 193 time I still don't remember to change the .com for .org! :| Trouble is by opening this site up we have now increased the trafic to wowpedia.com by a huge amount! They will be quite happy to sell ad space on it! :( Zasurus (talk) 18:05, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
Probably true, not much we can do about it though. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 18:32, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Have to Re-login[]

I was wondering on why I had to re-login into WoWpedia, considering that I did not log out or remove my search history. When I used wowwiki I kept myself logged in all the time, so why cant I remain logged in with Wowpedia? --Sairez (talk) 02:46, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm not having a problem with it, did you check "Remember my login on this computer"? --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 02:49, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm positive that I did check the "Remember my login on this computer" box. The weird is thing though is that I was wowpedia earlier in the week and earlier today, it wasn't until now that I was signed out and had to re-login. --Sairez (talk) 02:56, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Google search and redirecting to wowpedia[]

I disliked how when I searched on Google it would always send me to wowwiki, instead of here. So I wrote 2 greasemonkey scripts that help to alleviate that issue.
Rewrite search result links in a google search from wowwiki.com to wowpedia.org
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/89152
Redirect any navigation to wowwiki.com to wowpedia.org
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/89153
Obviously, if you have any need to go to wowwiki at any point, you should not install these. In the Google chrome browser greasemonkey scripts are installed as extensions. In firefox I believe you need to install the greasemonkey addon, and then install the scripts. --Mrthornhill (talk) 21:20, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Nicely done. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 21:12, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Love it! For us Canucks, go into Tools->Greasemonkey->Manage User Scripts->Then add google.ca to the list for it to work. Ressy (talk) 21:13, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out, I updated the script to work with any google.xxx url --Mrthornhill (talk) 21:20, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much for creating those scripts, I will find them useful, and it is good for a temporary solution for wowpedia until this site can establish itself on its own. --Bagel (talk) 00:52, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
Sweet! Actually, for a seamless Google experience, use this Included Page format: http*://*.google.*/* Actually, even easier: *.google.* Hehe. I'm using encrypted Google search. --Cralor (talk) 17:28, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Caveat: This will break GMail :) So add *mail.google.* to the list of exclusions. --Cralor (talk) 20:31, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for this! Although I couldn't use it as I love the Google Instant search so I spend a few hours working out another way of donig the google search redirects. I have made this:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/90284
BUT it causes a redirect msg if your using google instant so you need to use something like:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/10448
Thought I would share but remember credit goes to Mrthornhill though for the initial idea! ;-)
The reason I like this instead of the complete redirect is you can still go to WoWWiki if you need to like I wanted to see why Gourra got banned (further down this page) :) Zasurus (talk) 00:44, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Curse Errors[]

I'm having an Unexpected Curse Error alot,it is really annoying...IconSmall HighElf Male Aesindor, The Celestial Paladin (Leave a Message) 18:09, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

We know, we're sorry about that. Right now wowpedia's running on the same server as several other of the curse network sites. Unfortunately one of the cleanup processes for forums for another of the sites is negatively impacting this wiki, and the other wikis as well. I do believe Curse is getting us our own server so wowpedia can stay up without issues. As well, they're working on optimizing the back-end, which has caused a few outages. Ressy (talk) 18:26, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Ressy, this error is still happening, have you heard anything new from curse about it? The first few times where fine, but now it is getting really annoying. King of Stormwind. Loremaster Mosios (GossipGossipIcon BinderGossipIcon) 08:32, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Understandably so ! Thanks for the update. --Bellocois (talk) 05:34, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

So the admins start to get banned...[]

I sometimes still mistype and get to wowwiki. I find it ironic that a guy with 140 edits banned Gourra, with more than 70,000. I tried to search why he was banned, but after a while I noticed he probably was without any reason at all.

Whatever. Shows wikia's real face.--Lon-ami (talk) 11:24, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Food for Thought[]

There was already a few isolated mentions of us on other sites, but so far the biggest ad we got, and probably the only one we needed because of the traffic difference at this time, was the mention on MMO-Champion --Kanegasi C 13:31, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
Some of the forum contributors on the wowinsider site refer to us, though some still refer to wowwiki. WoWinsider blog posts mostly just point to wowhead. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 19:36, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
