Always stone?[]

I don't think any quilen in the game are not stone.--SWM2448 02:37, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

When the "Animate", are they still elemental? or do their turn to flesh?
Like the Terracotta Guardian in Kun-Lai, and some other mobs

Hm, good point, I suppose. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:32, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
It does seem they are all stone based... even though they're skinned and not mined. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:15, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

Capitalization[]

These should not be capitalized. They're just another creature subtype, like warp stalkers. In addition to my undeniable logic, one may observe the dungeon journal for Iron Qon, which speaks of quilen using lower case multiple times. - jerodast (talk) 22:57, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

After doing a bit more research, it appears Blizzard has been inconsistent on this. I still maintain lowercase is correct, which Blizzard has corroborated in some sources but contradicted in others. One rationalization might be that Quilen can also be used as an honorific term when describing not just quilen as a whole, but specific quilen in specific roles, such as that summoned by the Archaeology 5 0 quilenstatuette [Quilen Statuette] or those ridden by Iron Qon. This is rather silly, however, and I suspect capitalizations are simply errors.
Supporting capitalization are: The "spells and abilities" section of the Iron Qon dungeon journal entry, and the Archaeology 5 0 quilenstatuette [Quilen Statuette].
Denying capitalization are: The flavor description of the Iron Qon dungeon journal entry, an official story called Bleeding Sun, and the Throne of Thunder raid preview.
These are just the few examples I've stumbled across so far. I will do a fuller perusal of the Dungeon Journal and blizzard website shortly. If you wish to argue in favor of capitalization, be sure not to claim examples where the word is used at the start of the sentence or as part of a proper noun or title (e.g. a mob name or "Master of Quilen") as evidence in your favor :P - jerodast (talk) 23:45, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

As long as I'm here, I'll also point out the common mistake of adding S to pluralize "quilen". This is never done in Blizzard materials. - jerodast (talk) 23:45, 11 January 2014 (UTC)

You really didn't need to go through a long explanation of such a topic. Our policy has been to always write races/creatures in lowercase, unless a proper name (like Forsaken). See WP:RACE. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 04:11, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Hm, well I appreciate trying to save me time, but:
  1. Quilen is not an English word, so people may not immediately know whether it qualifies as a proper name. Perhaps the Quilen are a special order of creatures of a broader race, for instance.
  2. If Blizzard sets a certain race apart by consistently capitalizing its name, a discussion seems warranted as to whether this should be an exception to the usual rule. My intention was to establish whether they consistently do that (specifically, that they do not).
  3. Whether or not there's justification for an actual policy exception, people seem to make this mistake a lot with this race, so I don't mind explaining the correct usage.
- jerodast (talk) 18:58, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Blizzard writers are often capping races one day and not another day. Thats why we made such a policy on the issue. Many users often make that mistake on all every race, not just quilen, just comes with the many writing styles that wowpedia gets from around the world. Generally it just comes down to pointing the policy out to the new user, fixing the mistake, and moving on. SnakeSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3For Pony!
