I'd wanted to once more express my gratitude for your assistance in that little... Theramore debacle, as I've come to refer to it. Such a mess. Captured! Me!

Thalen Songweaver is a blood elf archmage[1] of some repute, once part of the Sunreavers and thus the Kirin Tor. In truth, however, Thalen was a spy for Garrosh Hellscream, Warchief of the Horde, for whom he created the mana bomb used to destroy Theramore. Songweaver's demeanor is generally prideful, jovial, and narcissistic. Songweaver sees his actions as simply being loyal to the Horde, with the persecution of Garrosh and his forces being unfair. He aided Kairozdormu's plot to save Garrosh from Pandaria.

History[]

Tides of War[]

WoW-novel-logo-16x62 This section concerns content related to the Warcraft novels, novellas, or short stories.

After the Council of Six agreed to aid Theramore, both Aethas Sunreaver and Rhonin recommended Thalen to join the mission. He accompanied Rhonin to defend Theramore Isle, where he was ordered to magically strengthen the northern gate. However, while he appeared to be a loyal member of the Kirin Tor, he was actually a Horde loyalist, and instead weakened the gate. His treachery was discovered by Jaina, who confronted him at his post. Confident, Thalen prepared to do battle with her, though Pained promptly knocked him unconscious and sent him to Captain Evencane for questioning. After the Horde broke through the northern gate, some of them rescued Thalen and removed him from the city; he was safely away when Garrosh Hellscream destroyed Theramore with a mana bomb,[2] which Thalen had engineered himself.[1]

Mists of Pandaria[]

Mists of Pandaria This section concerns content related to Mists of Pandaria.

After regaining consciousness, Thalen found himself shackled in the basement of Foothold Citadel. However, before Captain Evencane could interrogate him, he was successfully rescued by Horde adventurers. Grateful for being freed, Thalen tells his rescuers the truth about Garrosh's attack on Theramore. He will then send himself and the players through a portal to Orgrimmar so they can escape before the mana bomb destroys the city. Before leaving, he tells the adventurers to visit him, if they ever come to Silvermoon City.

He will mail victorious Horde players the Inv misc orb 03 [Mini Mana Bomb], which he himself created (though, by his own admission, perhaps in somewhat poor humor).

War Crimes[]

Thalen continued to reside in Silvermoon after the war's end. As the deposed Garrosh Hellscream's trial continued, Thalen was approached by Warlord Zaela, who was gathering a raid of True Horde loyalists to free their captured leader. Still loyal to Garrosh, and fearful that Lor'themar Theron would punish him severely for his part in destroying Theramore, Thalen agreed to join Zaela. His arcane mastery proved a valuable asset to the warlord, as did his mini-mana bomb creations.

Thalen and the other loyalists served as a distraction during the trial, leading to Garrosh's rescue at the hands of Kairoz and Wrathion. Thalen survived the assault and escaped along with the others.[1]

Following this and the events of war in Draenor, his whereabouts remain unknown.
