Text template[]

Should let ya know... The {{text}} template doesn't work over line breaks. The colon introduces a line break. :/--Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 21:08, May 12, 2010 (UTC)

Ok, I'm confused then. If it doesn't work, how come it shows up the exact same way? The only thing that I can think of is that if each line has its own {{text}} template, then it's easier to put in descriptions, without adding or moving templates. Am I getting the gist of it?--Mondoblasto (talk) 21:16, May 12, 2010 (UTC)
For me (firefox 3.6.3), the way you were doing it, the first line would be marked correctly, the second would not be. You're also right about being able to add crap in the middle of dialogs easier that way. (This despite MY having abused the <font> tag mercilessly in the same multi-line fashion you were thinking of. ... But that was before the Text template. And you can't pin it on me anyway!) --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 22:35, May 12, 2010 (UTC)
Ohhh, okay! I was wondering about that.... Well if it doesn't show up in Firefox, then have to do it for each line then. Cool, cleared that up ^^--Mondoblasto (talk) 22:56, May 12, 2010 (UTC)

Battle for Crusader's Pinnacle[]

I submit that completing the quest alone is sufficient to change the phase of Crusader's Pinnacle for the character. I believe that they need not return to the vicinity for the phase to have changed, though that becomes something of a Schrödinger's Cat problem. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 17:49, May 25, 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps so, what I was trying to get at um.... is that the phasing didn't refresh right away, you get outta visual range, and when you get near again, your graphics now pick up the new phase. I wasn't looking that sharply at my screenies though, it was realy late and I was tired. I'll have to double check them. If you didn't already, it's fine to undo those comments, no need to have it there if they were off kilter.--Mondoblasto (talk) 23:44, May 25, 2010 (UTC)
Since to turn in the quest, you pretty much have to be out of visual range of the area... likely this issue is moot. ;) Just that in other cases (such as the turret-quest in the area), you've not left the area but the phase has changed. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 18:07, May 26, 2010 (UTC)

Patch changes[]

When adding patch changes based on Wowhead, if Wowhead says something was added in patch 1.11.1, make sure it was actually added in that patch before you add it to the page. Since Wowhead was created at the time of patch 1.11.1 and it generates the "patch added" data by when it was added to the Wowhead database, anything added to the game before that patch will say it was added in patch 1.11.1, despite this being (in most cases) a gross inaccuracy. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 08:02, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Adding/changing actual content doesn't really count as a "minor edit." That tag is generally for spelling corrections, formatting, and minor rearranging of text. :) --Aquamonkeyeg (talk) 17:29, 24 June 2014 (UTC)

NPC gossip and quotes[]

Generally, all NPCs that you can interact with have greeting/gossip text. Since Patch 2.3.0, NPCs which only offer a single function (such as most flight masters), automatically bypass the greeting to let you directly use their functionality. For Leora, this basically means that you do not normally see the "Where would you like to fly to?" greeting, except when you can do something other than take a flight (like when you're turning in or accepting a quest).

In general, we do not include this greeting text in NPC articles, because most of it is just filler material required by a technical limitation in early versions of WoW. The Quotes section should be limited to things that are of significance to the character discussed in the article -- including a "Where would you like to fly to?" quote on a flight master article isn't appropriate. — foxlit (talk) 20:35, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

For older NPCs, they did/do tend to have unique quotes that I love to find, but for newer ones like Leora, I'll concede the point. I have noticed, for example, that worgen profession trainers only say I can teach you <profession>. Interested?, likely as Blizz doesn't have the kind of time to think up of new ones. I would also guess that this is similar/true for goblin ones too.
As I type this, I'm thinking both might make an interesting footnote/trivia/history thing to add to the flightmaster page and profession page, hmm. Might look into that later.Mondoblasto (talk) 08:45, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
I'd still prefer to avoid shoehorning gossip text into Quotes sections; though including the more interesting ones under a different section title would probably be okay. — foxlit (talk) 20:29, 25 July 2014 (UTC)

Lord Fordring and his knights[]

So... I think it refers to Tirion, not to Taelan. Xporc (talk) 20:07, 18 September 2016 (UTC)

You "think" it does, but unfortunately it's clear you haven't done any checking on it. It is so, so important to check your facts before assuming anything.
Here are the facts. Taelan was Highlord of the SC, above Marjhan. Tirion was in exile, and there's nothing that says 'yeah, he joined the AD after In Dreams'. It would be a VERY big deal if he'd joined right after that, he'd be there, you would have been able to see him at Light's Hope. When he showed up in The Light of Dawn, what did the others do? It's clear Tirion, even if he's not officially in charge (we're not told if he was either way), he's one of the FIRST FOUR paladins on the planet (that carries some serious street cred) and the others looked to him to call the shots. His name is on par with Uther and Turalyon. And yet, Eligor Dawnbringer talks as if "Lord Fordring" is under his command, leading knights? No, I don't think so.
Taelan on the other hand, is Marjhan's superior, commanding the forces at Hearthglen, and therefore in charge of knights, in a position to deal punishment if Dawnbringer decided to throw her out and she failed in her mission. As for I am certain he would take great pleasure in seeing to your 'atonement', this would refer to the SC's well known fanaticism in purging their lower echelons. Whether this is a story mistake or assumption on Dawnbringer's part in regard how Taelan would react is unknown as this was years and years before the comics, the stance "they must be all crazy" is not un unfair assessment.
On the other side of the coin... "He's talking about Tirion, which is hiding at Light's Hope,...". I would like to know where you got this from.--Mondoblasto (talk) 21:57, 18 September 2016 (UTC)
First, please, there is no need to be so aggressive in your answer. We're both two people working on the same wiki and if I contacted you it's because I wanted to debate.
So here's another fact: we know that by the time N Death Knight [8-30] The Light of Dawn happens, the Knights of the Silver Hand were both already recreated (since Tirion Fordring calls for the Argent Dawn and the Knights to unite their forces right after the battle) and were hiding at Light's Hope Chapel. The Lich King himself remarks "how simple it was to draw the great Tirion Fordring out of hiding". The whole battle for Light's Hope Chapel was just an ploy by Arthas to assassinate the hiding leader of the Silver Hand, considering the knights of Acherus were "meaningless" to him and "sent to die". Once again I'm just quoting from the quest.
So now that we know that, what is to say that the Knights of the Silver Hand were already in hiding at the Chapel during the time of the appearance of Naxxramas over the Plaguelands? Well, I admit, not much. But the context is very specific here. First, why would Marjhan fear Taelan and his knights?
Taelan is half a country away and Marjhan is from Tyr's Hand, as is indicated by her appearance as a Risen in Cataclysm. So she should be under the command of Crusader Lord Valdelmar or Abbendis, not Taelan. Also, she doesn't mention Taelan in her dialogs, or even the title of Scarlet Highlord. She only specifically mentions the "Grand Crusader". There is nothing implying she is under the command of Taelan.
About fearing knights, now: I don't remember anywhere in the game or even in the RPG books anything saying that the knights of the Scarlet Crusade were supposed to be special. If Eligor Dawnbringer wanted to scare Marjhan he should have talked about the infamous scarlet inquisitors, not about the Scarlet Knights which were just a bunch of random mobs that appeared like once or twice.
Also, why should Marjhan be scared anyway? The Scarlet Crusade are already crazy isolationists. She says herself that her involvement is not sanctioned by the Grand Crusader. Her appearance is already a covert op going against the wishes of the leader of the Scarlet Crusade himself. So would Taelan or any other Scarlet leader really punish Marjhan for failing to be a good diplomat toward the AD? Would they really go "Oh no, because of your racism now the Argent folk are not going to cooperate with us"? Please remember that by the time the Scarlet Enclave is destroyed the Scarlet Crusade had Argent Dawn members in its prisons, so it's not like the Crusade as an organization was interested in a real cooperation with the AD. I don't see any Scarlet leader purging Marjhan just because Eligor Dawnbringer told them so.
Really, the Knights of the Silver Hand are more of a threat to her right now. She's presumably a paladin herself and thus could be considered by them a fallen member of their order. A good target for 'atonement', as Dawnbringer says.
Also, Dawnbringer already knows that the Grand Crusader is a demon. He mentions it. And the Argent Dawn doesn't know that fact until N [60D] The Truth Comes Crashing Down, which is a vanilla quest, so we can assume that the patch 1.11 quests and dungeons happen later in the storyline than other vanilla quests. N [60G] In Dreams was a vanilla quest too, so there is nothing preventing someone from assuming that by that time Taelan is already dead. Note if we follow that line of reasoning Grand Inquisitor Isilien should be already dead too, an interesting thing considering Dawnbringer didn't threatened Marjhan by mentioning the scarlet inquisition.
So yeah, in the end, while there is nothing to say that Tirion Fordring joined Light's Hope to hide right after N [60G] In Dreams, we know he did it at least before N Death Knight [8-30] The Light of Dawn. Remember that there is a hidden sanctum right beneath Light's Hope Chapel ... There is no confirmation that the Sanctum of Light already existed in patch 1.11, but we already know that even before Highlord Mograine's death the chapel already had catacombs which contained the bodies of fallen heroes of the Light. If we visit the Sanctum of Light we can see a lot of coffins in there and I don't think that's just a coincidence, to me it sounds like the same place. So Fordring could have hid there during the events of Naxxramas.
To make it short, I think Tirion Fordring and the few Knights of the Silver Hand he could have gathered after In Dreams were already hiding at Light's Hope Chapel during that time, possibly in the Sanctum of Light. The adventurers were just mercenaries back then, strangers to the AD, and I'm not surprised its command staff would have kept Tirion's presence hidden to them considering the Lich King himself sacrificed the Scarlet Enclave and a whole death knights order just to try to assassinate him. Marjhan was probably informed of his presence only to keep her cooperating. So I think you were right about one thing: Tirion's presence was a VERY big deal, so important in fact that he could only be mentioned in veiled threats.
So there. Next time please don't be so aggressive before even hearing someone's thoughts. Xporc (talk) 09:40, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
"First, please, there is no need to be so aggressive in your answer." You are right, and I apologize for it. Plus, you have actually convinced me on which one it was. I suppose that I have some problems with the irregularities that were present in vanilla, such as Dawnbringer whispering about Balnazzar right in front of Marjhan (I mean, seriously? Why would you do that? Why would ANYONE do that?? /confused /frustrated Ugh.) It's also unknown how far back Blizz planned to fit all of this stuff (from Wrath and all that), and how much they said, "Okay, we established this basic plot line, so then we need to go in this direction...". This is a point of contention for me, as you stated that even before Highlord Mograine's death the chapel already had catacombs which contained the bodies of fallen heroes of the Light, which is a Wrath detail, not a vanilla detail. No, I'm not arguing this never happened, it is part of the lore now. There's no indication that this story detail was ever planned that far back. It's umm... (*thinking*) kinda like the Ashbringer story plot that was aiming for Outland (as I'm sure you remember), but didn't go anywhere. (In fact come to think of it now, I'm pretty sure they DIDN'T plan any catacomb detail at that time. What one does not write in the past becomes open for adding story later.)
I agree that Marjhan was most likely assigned to Tyr's Hand, along with the other future Risen. To me, the most important thing is to not state absolutes unless something in the game confirms it, that's why we have the handy-dandy speculation heading for us to use. In line with that, I mistook your opinion that Tirion was hiding in LHC as a statement of fact. Once again I apologize for that.
Tirion did say, as you pointed out, that he was going to take control of the KofSH. I agree that he was most likely working with the AD and most likely working out of EPL. This would fall in line with Dawnbringer's statement. He wasn't saying that he'd order Tirion (as I had thought earlier), but said that he'd inform, as in "I'll just let our ally know and leave that up to him". I do not think he was hiding in the catacombs, and I'm not totally convinced he was even based out of LH, although it was the bastion of the true Light in EPL at that time and he would definitely be interested in protecting it (thus the LK's "draw out of hiding"), so it's a strong possibility. Again, it can be stated under speculation.
Whew, that was some intense fact finding. Good job! :P --Mondoblasto (talk) 16:27, 19 September 2016 (UTC)
Well I'm glad we got to understand each other in the end. Hugs! I agree with mostly everything of what you say. If you agree, when I have some time tomorrow I'll had a speculation entry about this on the Light's Hope Chapel page and then I'll link to that speculation from the Tirion Fordring, Eligor Dawnbringer and Marjhan pages. NPC quotes and the Description section[]

The Description section is strictly for what is displayed there in-game. So unless Blizzard suddenly decides to include NPC quest accept quotes under that section, don't move them out of the Notes section. -- Alayea (talk / contrib) 19:28, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Strictly speaking in that line of thought, neither does it belong in the Notes section. However we do add it for completeness.
In my view, when they say it is just as important as the fact that they do say it, whether we really need the info to do the quest or not. As I see it, it can indeed be part of the description because they will not ever say it unless we hit that accept button; I feel that it is a disconnect that is out-of-sync with the rest of the quest to insert it at the bottom of the page, just as if one were to take the Progress text (which is also not strictly necessary, but we put it between Descript and Complete because that's its place in line) and add it to the bottom.
However, I will concede that moving an Accept quote out of the Notes section when someone already added it there is not strictly necessary to do, just as it's not strictly necessary to move other mid-quest quotes to the Progress section. I just feel it makes more sense to have it where it is said and when; in any case, having it in either section (just not both at the same time) is inconsequential. - Mondoblasto (talk) 03:31, 22 November 2016 (UTC)

Read this [3], this [4] is a shorter example. A bullet point marks a randomized quote; there is no order, no dialogue, no "paragraph" being spoken. When it's not used properly, how do we know where it starts, or ends?Mondoblasto (talk) 00:20, 17 March 2017 (UTC)
Hmm, okay. Didn't know about the bullet point marks indicating randomized text. --Mordecay (talk) 00:28, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Italicized ship names[]

Heya! I am not sure we should do those in quest texts. I mean, in meta text, yes, but shouldn't we stick to the exact same presentation used by Blizzard when transcribing quest text? Xporc (talk) 09:26, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

It's a fair question. (Honestly, I don't think the game can even support italics.) I've always stuck to two things: how would it appear in a novel, and if there is anything to be added to what the game provides, it must only be where a character is talking and can be heard by the player. Even then, it has to clearly show what words are an addition to it, and not original text; I don't see anything wrong with using bold or italics when you can hear the verbal weight of spoken lines, but just not willy nilly.
That being said, in regards to the Exodar.... in my mind I think it could either way, to be honest. Even I wouldn't have a fit if it wasn't always italicized. It's pretty much not a ship anymore functionally, but it is/was a ship regardless; it's always called "the Exodar", an object, rather than just "Exodar", like a location. I know that was a bit more than what you were asking about, but that's my two cents.--Mondoblasto (talk) 10:31, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
When it comes to the Notes section of a quest, I don't mind having text italicized because it's text that we wrote, but when it comes to the Objectives and Description section I think we should stick to the exact same text Blizzard provided Xporc (talk) 11:10, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Again, I don't personally believe that the game can do so (nor any mmorpg out there). While there could be an actual tech issue, the fact is it simply would be time consuming for game developers to do so (beyond using all caps to stress emphasis, because it's right there on the keyboard). Once they start adding different fonts, namely bold or underlining, to their text, it would behoove them to keep doing it, which again is not worth their time. I myself have a habit of double spacing between new sentences (even in this response), but that's considered obsolete alongside the typewriter.
However, that's not an excuse for a wiki nor any other type of info site. Look up any site worth their salt (Wookiepedia and Memory Alpha in particular are good examples) and that's what they do. In the end, it's good, factual and proper use of the English language: a ship, titles of books or shows (or rather, a play in the Warcraft universe) is italicized. It's been done for 500 years: we have no reason to stop doing so.--Mondoblasto (talk) 00:48, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Mh, it's Blizzard. They created WoW. I think that if they can add another planet full of mobs, cutscenes and voice over, they have the technology to add italicized text when naming ships and other stuff, they just chose not to. Now, let's take a precise example: in the quest N [45] An Offering of Light, the following is said in the quest description: "In building the Vindicaar, we fashioned the Netherlight Crucible to harness the tremendous powers at play on Argus." That's the exact quote from wowhead and the game. So on the page quest, I think we should have the exact same text as the source and not "In building the Vindicaar, we fashioned the Netherlight Crucible to harness the tremendous powers at play on Argus." instead Xporc (talk) 07:25, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
I don't think you quite understand. Have you read any of the tie-in books? (If you haven't you really should, so much lore.) Any ship named, any book titled is italicized, because that is proper English. It's not about sticking to the exact formatting in a quest; when it's factual English or spelling mistakes, we notate that with {{sic}}. In fact, the template for Wowpedia had to be created by Tycerius because I was the first one to start using it on this website, and there was a need for it. (And "what does that mean?", "why are you putting that there, Mondoblasto?", ect.)
In any case, I say again: it is proper use of the English language, no less than capitalization or punctuation. <Name> and <class title> should be capitalized when they start a sentence: when they don't, lower case is fine. Spoken lines and text quote discrepancies can be noted when we notice them; when used to avoid having to speak the player's name it's not as important and very trivial. Ship names and book titles are italicized. It is proper use of the English language.
That is all I have to say on the matter, and I hope you understand why we should do so. If you do not, and honestly it's a topic meant to be asked in the community and not between two editors, you can ask in the Village pump. However, I can assure you that you will basically, more or less, get the same answer. It's just good English.--Mondoblasto (talk) 08:39, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Actually yes, it's about sticking to the exact formatting in a quest. I don't mind (and I already do) italicized text when speaking about ships in meta text, but when we copy text straight out of the game to be used as a source in the wiki, I do believe we should stick to the exact formatting. Anyway, since you believe this conversation should be opened up to more people, here it is. Xporc (talk) 08:55, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

Please review the updates to WP:NQA. The "Quest:" prefix is no longer needed. Thanks. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 02:20, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Dark Iron Rifle[]

Out of curiosity, is there a source for this item being added in 1.1.0? And would that not also be the case for Inv scroll 06 [Schematic: Dark Iron Rifle]? PeterWind (talk) 21:48, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

Ah, I see what you mean. I had meant it to be the earliest version of the game possible (which it isn't), but I'm thinking I'll just take that out.--Mondoblasto (talk) 22:01, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

What is your problem?SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 12:29, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Just because some information is incorrect does not mean you have to revert other editors changes just to correct two simple things. In this case you could've just edited the article and removed the durability and change the sell price and possibly add editor notes for other editors like myself. The lack of communication that you didn't give us made this last a couple of days as to why you were doing this in the first place. — SurafbrovWowpedia administrator T / C 12:56, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
