* It is a common misconception that Bloodlust came before Heroism. Many believe this to be the case because shamans during classic were a Horde only class. In fact, the Bloodlust and Heroism World of Warcraft abilities were both added in The Burning Crusade as level 70 shaman abilities, so both factions gained their respective abilities at the same time. However, Bloodlust existed as a Horde spell in the strategy games Warcraft II (on the Ogre Magi) and Warcraft III (on the orc Shaman) long before the launch of World of Warcraft, so the truth of the matter depends on one's perspective.

"It's scary even when someone other than an ogre mage casts it." - Moala Stonebinder[1]

Bloodlust is an instant cast Horde shaman buff that increases melee, ranged and spell haste by 30% for all party and raid members for 40 seconds. Bloodlust is available only to Horde shamans; Alliance shamans instead learn Ability shaman heroism [Heroism]. The two spells are identical in every way except for the name. It is one of the four bloodlust effects.

Notes

See the article on bloodlust effects for notes and tactics relevant to all abilities of this type.

All targets affected by Bloodlust receive a 10 minute debuff called Sated, preventing them from being affected by another bloodlust effect for the duration of the debuff.

However, Bloodlust did appear in the strategy games, Warcraft II and Warcraft III, that preceded World of Warcraft.
