Hailing from the secretive Pandaren Empire, the mighty brewmasters travel the world in search of exotic ales and the finest brewed spirits. These affable warriors rarely seek out danger or trouble, preferring instead to spend their time concocting new and tasty beverages for any brave enough to imbibe them. However, if attacked, the laughing brewmasters bring all of their pandaren agility and ferocity to bear! They even bring their beer to war! They are peerless warriors and world class drinkers all in one![1]

A warrior Hero, the brewmasters of Pandaria have emerged from the bamboo forests of their ancestors to bring their unique fighting style (and robust ales) to the highest bidder.[2]

Hero names

Mojo Dark-Ale, Sinjo Honeybrew, Kesha Wildbarley, Tatsa Sweetbarrow, Mushi Ale-Hearth, Jinto Reedwine, Masha Storm-Stout, and Polo Barrel-keg.[1]

Note: These are "random hero" names from Warcraft III (Pandaren Brewmaster). Although, several of the names are partially referenced in Dark Factions.[3]

Information

A warrior Hero, exceptional at absorbing damage and melee combat. The Brewmasters of Pandaria have emerged from the bamboo forests of their ancestors to bring their unique fighting style (and robust ales) to the highest bidder. Attacks land units.

The Pandaren Brewmaster is an excellent melee hero! He has several area effecting spells to take down groups of enemy troops and his ultimate is certainly one of the funniest spells in the game. His basic combo is to cast Drunken Haze on the enemy to douse them, and then set them on fire with Breath of Fire. He also has the Drunken Brawler Passive skill which gives him a chance to avoid enemy attacks as well as a chance to deal bonus damage. His Ultimate splits him into three elemental pandas, each with their own powers.

The Panda is a Strength hero, and because of that he doesn’t have a large amount of mana. Until 5th level he won’t have enough mana to do two consecutive Drunken Haze/Breath of Fire combos! Unless the Panda has access to extra mana, through Archmage’s Brilliance Aura or Obsidian Statue’s Spirit Touch for example, it’s probably best to pick either Drunken Haze or Breath of Fire and spend the other points on Drunken Brawler.

The Panda is a versatile hero, because of this he benefits from a wide variety of items. Circlets of Nobility are a great buy for Panda. The extra damage, extra mana, and extra attack speed given by Circlets of Nobility are all things that Mr. Panda needs very much. Gloves of Haste are good as well because more attacks mean a greater chance to get a Critical Strike with Drunken Brawler. Mana potions are an obvious choice also, especially if you have points in both of his area effect spells.

Spells and abilities

Breath of Fire

BTNBreathOfFire
Breathes a cone of fire at enemy units which deals damage. Units that have Drunken Haze on them will ignite and take burn damage over time.
Level Duration (Hero) Cooldown Mana Cost Range Area of Effect Allowed Targets Effect Hero Level Req
1 8 (5) sec. 10 sec. 70 50 15 Air, Ground, Building 65 initial damage, 7 damage/sec. 1
2 8 (5) sec. 10 sec. 70 50 15 Air, Ground, Building 125 initial damage, 14 damage/sec. 3
3 8 (5) sec. 10 sec. 70 50 15 Air, Ground, Building 170 initial damage, 21 damage/sec. 5

Breath of Fire damage is capped to 8 targets. This does not affect the amount of damage dealt by burning damage from the Beath of Fire / Drunken Haze Combination.

Cast Drunken Haze on a powerful unit, then use Breath of Fire to ignite them.

Remember that the burn-over-time damage on Drunken Hazed enemies effectively doubles the damage of the spell. Due to this and due to the two spells costing the same amount of mana, it is almost always advantageous to cast Drunken Haze on the enemy and then using Breath of Fire.

Drunken Haze

BTNStrongDrink
Drenches a target enemy unit in alcohol, causing its movement speed to be reduced, and have a chance to miss on attacks. When units with Drunken Haze cast on them are hit by Breath of Fire, they will ignite and take burn damage over time.
Level Duration (Hero) Cooldown Mana Cost Range Area of Effect Allowed Targets Effect Hero Level Req
1 12 (5) sec. 12 sec. 70 55 20 Air, Ground, Enemy, Organic, Neutral 15% movement speed, 45% miss chance 1
2 12 (5) sec. 12 sec. 70 55 20 Air, Ground, Enemy, Organic, Neutral 30% movement speed, 65% miss chance 3
3 12 (5) sec. 12 sec. 70 55 20 Air, Ground, Enemy, Organic, Neutral 50% movement speed, 80% miss chance 5

Use Drunken Haze on powerful units then use Breath of Fire!

Drunken Haze combines well with other spells. Remember that there is a minimum speed which units move at so slow effects don’t stack well with each other. However, accuracy debuffs do stack. If you cast Drunken Haze on a group of regular enemies that already is under the effect of other debuffs such as Necromancer’s Cripple or Pit Lord’s Howl of Terror, their ability to deal damage will be very low. Use these combos on groups of enemy units that are harassing the weakest parts of your army.

Drunken Brawler (Passive)

PASBTNDrunkenDodge
Gives a percent chance to avoid attacks and a 10% chance to deal additional damage.
Level Duration Cooldown Mana Cost Range Area of Effect Allowed Targets Effect Hero Level Req
1 Always N/A None N/A Personal Self 7% dodge, 2 times normal damage 1
2 Always N/A None N/A Personal Self 14% dodge, 3 times normal damage 3
3 Always N/A None N/A Personal Self 21% dodge, 4 times normal damage 5

This ability is similar to a combination of the Night Elf Demon Hunter’s Evasion ability and the Orc Blade Master’s Critical Strike ability. It is approximately two-thirds as effective as each of them. That’s like getting 33% extra skill for your points!

Drunken Brawler can allow for some very high damage attacks as the Pandaren Brewmaster gets equipment and levels.

Red numbers will float around the Pandaren Brewmaster indicating the additional amount of damage.

Drunken Brawler does not work on buildings.

Storm, Earth, And Fire (Ultimate)

BTNStormEarth&Fire
Splits the Pandaren Brewmaster into elements, forming 3 specialized warriors. If any of them survive until the end of their summoned timer, the Brewmaster is reborn.
Level Duration Cooldown Mana Cost Range Area of Effect Allowed Targets Effect Hero Level Req
N/A 60 sec. 180 sec. 150 N/A N/A N/A Transforms into Storm, Earth, and Fire 6

This splits the Pandaren into three separate units with their own special abilities: Storm, Earth, and Fire.

Fire and Earth are both good melee units; send them into battle right away. Many players choose to cast one or two spells with Storm and then send him to a safe area for the spell’s duration. This way you do not have to worry about the survival of your Pandas and can focus on other aspects of the battle.

Note: When using this ultimate, the Pandaren Brewmaster's inventory isn't available and bonuses from items he carries are temporary disabled.

Appearance in The Frozen Throne campaigns

In the fourth mission of the Sentinels campaign a pandaren was in the Pandaren Brewing area in southwest corner of the map. He gave Maiev Shadowsong a Slipper of Agility +3, before closing up his shop.

Chen Stormstout is the most prominently featured Brewmaster and is present throughout the bonus campaign, albeit only if you complete an optional quest to recruit him.

Two brewmasters appear in the Blood Elf campaign. In the secret mission, one shows up in the final wave to try to stop the blood elves from escaping through the portal. The second one is a secret character. To get the Brewmaster, however, the player must survive all the waves of attackers on the tower defense style secret level, including defeating the alliance allied Pandaren. If successful, they'll control not only Kael & Vashj during the next mission, but also a random-named brewmaster.
