Strategy Tips

I recently did some work on the strategy and eventually added some helpful tips that I've found in this fight. I don't know if the best way to display these is the way I've done it (under the paragraph it relates to) or if there's a better way. Any thoughts apprecitated :) --SummonerMarc (talk) 02:06, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

Ice Tombs block Icy Grip?

One Elitist Jerks thread suggested that Ice Tombs in the final phase block the Icy Grip, although not the Blistering Cold. Is that correct?

Unchained Magic

Some work put in by my raid recently seems to indicate that unchained magic will always be given to a spell dps and a healer, (though we haven't worked with the possibility of two spell dps). Basically, two healers will not both get it in the same cast. This will allow raids with a low ranged composition to handle unchained magic slightly differently for higher dps output. Namely, the single ranged can count on getting unchained magic every cast and should be able to chain-cast through the debuff as it will never fall off while she is grounded. In phase 1, when she becomes airborne, the ranged would have to pop a major damage reduction/negation spell (Iceblock, Dispersion, etc) to avoid dying, but in phase 2 she never becomes airborne so the only question to be asked is whether the stacks will successfully kill an icetombed player. I have not had time to verify how this works, but if I do I'll post it on the main page. If anyone else can verify it for me, I'd love to get it posted.

Wing Buffet?

I have seen knockdown animations occur relatively frequently in the melee dps. Does anyone know if she has a wing buffet? I haven't been able to find it in my combat log.

Just looking at the ability list, are you sure it's not the tail slap? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:19, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
The tail slap is a knockback like Ony's and deals pretty noticeable damage. This is a knockdown such that your character falls over and stands back up again and is stunned for about half a second. I only noticed it because it seemed my abilities weren't firing all the time when I was expecting them to. Now that I've been looking for it I've noticed it on others. Additionally, happens to the whole group of melee at the same time (probably not the tank) and doesn't seem to do damage (though it could and I might just be attributing it to the aura). I'll see if I can get a screencap of it or if it shows up in my combat log. I think this may be an undocumented ability. Dragonlordged (talk) 20:20, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
A combat log reference would be good. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 20:47, April 20, 2010 (UTC)
What's happening here is this: Tail Smash has a 45 yard range, but as the tool tip states only people within 20 yards of the smash take the knock back (and the big time damage). There is some range between 20 yards and 45 yards where players take a knock down and much less damage. The knock down is pretty weird; I've been able to finish a lightning bolt cast while being knocked down, but it seems to interrupt my swings (chain casting is what I do while waiting for Chilled to the Bone to wear off). You can investigate this at e.g. World of Logs by looking up Tailsmash damage -- one night, across 7 wipes on hard mode I took 18 of these knock downs for around 6k each. Plate wearers next to me were taking an average of 4k per, so it's physical and mitigated by armor I'd assume. --Drolfeir (talk) 08:40, August 14, 2010 (UTC)
