Please don't use the wide right sidebar

I was looking at the Diablo wiki and the Starcraft wiki which look more like the standard Wikia-wiki template and I'm concerned that the right sidebar is too wide. I hope WoWWiki doesn't inherit this layout. The sidebar effectively takes up about 1/3rd the width of the screen.

Any feedback on this concern? --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 2:51 PM PDT 1 Nov 2007

Discussed long ago. Wikia said they'd make it an optional skin. --User:Sky2042/Sig 22:06, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
The new skin will become the default skin for new users and those not logged in - however, the option to use the old skin will still be there. The sidebar contents are customizable and allows for quite a variety of special stuff :) I've been working with the "Quartz" skin on other wikis for a while, and it has really grown on me. I should note that Wikia welcome feedback, and by the time we move over to it, some changes may be in place. Kirkburn  talk  contr 22:15, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree on the unnecessary overly sized sidebar width, the placement on the right side of the screen is OK, but I would think that it could be customized to limit it to one column. This is one of our communities biggest feedback with our new default skin and Quartz in general. --Charitwo 15:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
So, will there be an attempt to integrate features from the new skin into the old skin? It would be nice to try to make a compromise skin in between the two. --Gengar orange 22x22 Fandyllic (talk · contr) 1:17 AM PST 6 Jan 2008
JohnQ has put out some mockups of the next version of Quartz. Hopefully we can get some feedback and then put up a live version for people to try out. The images are attached to his mail to the Central mailing list. I think this could be called a compromise between the two skins, hopefully taking the best of both -- sannse (talk) 18:37, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

API upgrade?

I see that Wikia's version of the MediaWiki API is pretty heavily customized. Do we know yet whether the API will be upgraded to 1.11 at the same time the site is? One of the new features in the 1.11 API (action=query&prop=templates) is the last piece of the puzzle for enhancements to the ArmoryProfileBot which will make it considerably easier to use. If/when the new API is available (and the change becomes possible), I'm going to take the opportunity to do a near-total rewrite which will also reduce its impact on the wiki (smaller, more frequent updates; {{subst:}}-ed templates; ...). Now there's a question for TOR if I ever saw one ;) I've adked him to stop by here -- sannse (talk) 23:00, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, we'll also be upgrading the API. :) Moli will be taking care of that, since he's responsible for most of our API modifications. TOR 16:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Another question for TOR

We have pages broken by the namespace implementations, most of which can be found at Special:BrokenRedirects (the ones with a space eg "Guild: <name>". Editors can't edit those, admins can't delete them (it takes both to the properly named page, eg "Guild:<name>"). Can they be purged manually from serverside, and would it be best to do it at the same time as the update, or later? --Sky (talk | con | wh) 03:50, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

It would probably be best to look at it before the upgrade. Please add it to Server requests. I'll take a look next week. TOR 16:09, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Done. --Sky (talk | con | wh) 23:20, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Several Accounts

Where should concerns about multiple accounts be addressed? --Ilublawn 19:19, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

How do you mean? Multiple accounts where? Kirkburn  talk  contr 20:57, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Uh, I think he means an account here and an account on central Wikia. --PcjWowpedia wiki manager (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:59, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
